The rose is used in the process of life coaching. It structures the 1 hour long sessions so we remain rooted in God throughout. Colossians 2:7 says " Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness". The rose is used as a metaphor as it comprises all of the essential elements of a life coaching session; what is going well, what your challenges are, what opportunities you have to grow in your relationship with God and how can God be rooted in it all.
When you first start working with me, we will complete an assessment which will allow us to be clear what your starting point is and where you want to get to in your journey. Each session will be a safe space for you to explore areas in your life where you feel you need support. Each session starts and end in prayer and will follow this structure.
Represented by the flower, to begin, we will look at what is going well for you in your life as a follower of Jesus. We will focus on which parts of your life you feel you have allowed God control of, whether that be physically, mentally and spiritually and where you feel at peace. Psalm 9:1 says "I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds". We start each session looking at what you can be grateful to God for. This reminds us of how good God is and how He can be trusted with all the struggles we have,
The next part of the session, we will look at what the obstacles and challenges are for you in your life right now, what is getting in the way for you to live the abundant life Jesus promised you. This may be a lack of motivation to workout, a feeling of powerlessness over food, a struggle to look in the mirror with acceptance, feelings of shame and guilt around choices that have been made in the past, a lackof opportunity to use God-given gifts, to name but a few of the possible issues. Once we have identified what the issues are, I will work with you to separate the lies the devil has made you believe and compare them with the truth of Jesus, the truth of Scripture. I will help you to see yourself as Jesus sees you, to help you to love yourself and allow the grace of God to transform your thinking. "We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Cor 10:5) finding practical, realistic ways to create Spirit filled habits where God can transform you "by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2.)
Once we have established areas that you want to work on, we will create opportunities for you to use this wisdom and put it into practice. They will be small goals that include God at their centre. I will make sure you feel the goals you set are achievable, realistic and that you are excited about achieving them. We will then give these goals over to God in prayer together.
Each session will be rooted in Scriptural truths and in a safe and loving environment, so you can discover God's will for your life and how to achieve it. You can step forward boldly into the life God has planned for you. This is an exciting opportunity to put your faith into practice.
